React Next.js Node.js TypeScript GraphQL PostgreSQL Redis Amazon SQS Full-stack Development API Integrations Event-driven Architecture Web Performance Optimization Accessibility SQL CI/CD Sample interview questions Describe a full-stack feature you delivered that improved a key customer metric. I would explain the customer problem, define the success metric, and describe how I partnered with product and design to ship an instrumented solution. I would include the experiment design, technical implementation, rollout safeguards, and the resulting improvement in conversion, activation, retention, or reliability. How would you design a reliable third-party integration that uses webhooks and asynchronous processing? I would use authenticated webhook endpoints, durable queueing, idempotency keys, retry policies with backoff, dead-letter handling, and comprehensive observability. I would also define reconciliation processes, monitor failure rates and latency, and document ownership and recovery procedures. How do you balance frontend performance, accessibility, and rapid product experimentation? I establish performance and accessibility guardrails early, including Core Web Vitals monitoring, semantic HTML, keyboard support, and automated checks. Experiments are feature-flagged, instrumented, and evaluated against both product outcomes and technical guardrails so short-term gains do not create lasting user or maintenance costs. How have you provided technical leadership without becoming a delivery bottleneck? I set clear architectural direction, break initiatives into independently deliverable milestones, and make tradeoffs visible. I use design reviews, documentation, pairing, and code reviews to raise team capability while delegating ownership and remaining available for high-impact decisions. What considerations are important when developing software that handles sensitive healthcare-related data? I would apply least-privilege access, data minimization, secure integration patterns, auditability, encrypted transport and storage, and careful logging practices that avoid exposing sensitive information. I would also work closely with security, compliance, and legal partners to ensure implementation decisions align with applicable privacy requirements and internal controls. About the Role: Hims & Hers is on a mission to empower people to live healthier lives. Our engineering teams play a critical role in achieving this by building the end to end product experience that helps patients understand and manage their health. As a Senior Engineer, you will be a hands on technical leader responsible for building and optimizing the patient facing experiences and back end services that power our platform. You will design, build, and iterate across the full stack, from modern, performant front end interfaces to reliable back end services and integrations with external partners, ensuring every feature is accurate, dependable, and delivers measurable impact for patients. In this role, you will collaborate closely with product, design, operations, data, and other engineering teams to launch new features and workflows, improve the user experience, and refine the patient journey. By combining strong technical execution with a product minded, data informed approach, you will help more patients get meaningful value from our platform while improving the overall quality, reliability, and performance of the systems you own. You Will: • Lead the design and architecture of scalable, performant full stack solutions that meet product requirements and enhance the patient experience. • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers on best practices, design patterns, and coding standards. • Advocate for your team’s technical priorities and ensure alignment within the broader engineering organization. • Participate in product discovery sessions to assess feasibility, explore patient needs, and validate ideas through prototypes and experiments. • Collaborate with UX/UI designers to create intuitive, engaging interfaces that help patients understand and act on their information, improving completion and engagement. • Build and maintain reliable, well monitored integrations with external partners and internal systems, with strong attention to data accuracy, privacy, and compliance. • Work closely with other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration and communication across systems and services. • Contribute to the team’s technical vision by identifying strategic technologies and investments that improve scalability, reliability, and performance. • Break down complex projects into clear, actionable tasks and lead execution to successful outcomes. • Elevate engineering standards by improving workflows, processes, and tools to increase development velocity and quality. • Analyze product, operational, and patient feedback metrics to identify optimization opportunities and drive continuous improvement. • Create and maintain technical documentation for architecture, integrations, experiments, and development processes. • Conduct code reviews and contribute to knowledge sharing initiatives across the team. • Model a culture of open communication, feedback, and continuous learning by coaching and supporting teammates at all levels. You Have: • 5+ years of professional experience building production web products with strong full stack skills in React/Next.js and Node/TypeScript (or similar). • Proven experience delivering scalable, high quality web applications and services in a modern cloud environment. • Experience building and operating third party integrations and asynchronous, event driven workflows (queues, webhooks, retries, idempotency) where correctness and reliability matter. • Proficiency in front end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Next.js, GraphQL) and back end technologies (Node.js, Nest.js, PostgresDB, Redis, Amazon SQS). • Track record of shipping experiment driven features that improved conversion, activation, or retention; comfortable with feature flag systems and experimentation platforms such as GrowthBook, Optimizely, or LaunchDarkly. • Fluency in web performance optimization, accessibility, and modern UI engineering, with an eye for presenting complex information clearly and responsibly. • Strong analytical and data skills, including event instrumentation, debugging analytics, and writing basic SQL or partnering with Analytics to define success metrics and guardrails. • Deep product mindset: cares equally about UX, copy, and pacing as about architecture and APIs; approaches problems with iterative, testable solutions. • Experience with Agile development methodologies and CI/CD pipelines, including automated unit and integration testing. • Excellent problem solving abilities and sound judgment in balancing speed, quality, and impact. • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to align partners, make tradeoffs explicit, and drive initiatives from idea to execution. • Highly organized, self directed, and capable of prioritizing multiple projects to meet goals with minimal oversight. • Bonus: experience in healthcare or another regulated domain (HIPAA, PHI handling), or with third party partner integrations and industry data standards. Our Benefits (there are more but here are some highlights): • Competitive salary & equity compensation for full-time roles • Unlimited PTO, company holidays, and quarterly mental health days • Comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental & vision, and parental leave • Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP) • 401k benefits with employer matching contribution • Offsite team retreats We are committed to building a workforce that reflects diverse perspectives and prioritizes ethics, wellness, and a strong sense of belonging.
